This post has been brewing in my brain for quite some time, but I really wanted to include pictures and it took me some time to get that part together. Like most things, it was so much easier in execution than what I had anticipated. Steaming is no different, it may seem overwhelming and like way too much work at first, but it’s actually pretty simple!
Here is a step-by-step (with pictures) guide to Yoni steaming at home.
1. Fill a pot with water about 3/4 full. Store this pot in the bathroom, and use for steaming because, you know, it goes in the toilet.
2. Then, add an herbal packet. If you buy herbs in bulk, you will add 3 tablespoons. If you buy them already packaged you will use 1 packet. I get my herbs from Steamy Chick.
EDIT: Herbs from Steamy Chick no longer come packaged. If you would like to re-use your herbs, you can package them yourself with large tea bags or get them pre-packaged from Holly.
3. Boil the herbs on the stove for 10-minutes.
NOTE: Leave the lid on, I just took the lid off so you could see the steam.
If you would like to reuse the herbs, you can remove them from the pot at this point and save them in a jar with a lid in the fridge. You can use each packet up to three times.
4. Then place the pot into the toilet.
Before you sit down, hold your wrist over the steam to ensure that it’s not too hot. When it is a comfortable temperature you simply have a seat and enjoy your session. The steam will stay hot for 10-15 min so this set-up only works for shorter steam sessions. For a longer steam session you will need a sauna or you can always come in to the office to use mine. Steaming before bed is a great option, make sure to keep yourself cozy while your steaming with blankets and/or towels.
For longer steam sessions, one of my clients said she was going to put the initial heated water into a ceramic bowl and then re-heat a second pot while she was steaming so she could have a longer steam session.
